The Bass Coast Landcare Network is pleased to announce the successful funding as part of the Natural Heritage Trusts Climate-Smart Agriculture Program’s Small Grants opportunity. The project is titled ‘Creating Climate Smart Farms in Bass Coast through Climate Adaptation Planning, Emissions Reduction Planning and community education’. Funded through to December 2026, this exciting new project is funding a range of exciting initiatives with a strong focus on agricultural adaptation and resilience in the face of a changing climate targetting farmers, First Nations people and the Bass Coast landcare community.
These activities will increase awareness, knowledge, and skills related to climate adaptation planning and emissions reduction planning. Specifically, the project will facilitate the following activities: 1) 2 Climate Adaptation Planning workshops targeting Bass Coast farmers 2) 2 Carbon Edge workshop in partnership with Meat and Livestock Australia targeting Bass Coast farmers 3) A 1-day introductory training day targeting the Bunurong Land Council Aboriginal Corporations Tarbuk Biik (strong country) Team 4) 1 Climate Smart agriculture field day 5) 1 Carbon Edge video case study showcasing a Carbon Edge workshop participants learning journey This exciting project will be run in the Bass Coast Landcare Network area. Learning programs such as planning workshops and field days combined with case studies on ‘local champions’ are an integral part of this project. The project is focused on farmers learning together and the development of community leaders. These community leaders, through their own interactions in their farming community, will pass on their knowledge and skills and engage many more Bass Coast farmers during this project and beyond.
