Pest animals have not only a significant environmental impact, but also have economic and social impacts. Animals such as foxes impact agriculture through predation of newborn lambs, newborn goats, and poultry. Rabbits reduce productivity of pastures and compete with livestock for feed. Complete eradication of most feral animals is not possible, but effective and sustained control methods are available to reduce the damage they cause.

Bass Coast Landcare Network have a dedicated Pest Animal Team who are experienced in a wide range of control methods. Many pest animals, such as the fox and rabbit, were introduced to Australia during European settlement. These animals then established, spread, and now impact our native fauna and flora. These threats include predation, competition for both food and habitat, and spread of disease. In Victoria, the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 outlines the responsibility of landholders in their management of both noxious weeds and pest animals.
