Fire Wise Project Update.

Our 'Promoting and demonstrating ‘Fire Wise’ planning and implementation in the Bass Coast' project is progressing well since out last project update in November 2023. 

The project is funded by the Australian Governments Preparing Australian Communities program in partnership with the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW). FNPW is an environmental charity organisation, that has been assisting communities to restore and conserve Australia’s natural environment for more than 50 years.

With a mix of on farm case studies, demonstration sites, educational materials and partnership development, the project will raise the profile of fire planning and ‘Fire Wise’ awareness within the community. 

Current project activity updates include:

• 2 fire wise/regenerative agriculture property management plans are in development for a Kongwak and French Island property.   These plans will form the basis of case studies that will be available to other landowners in the Bass Coast
• 2 fire wise demonstration site plantings are in the planning stage at Woolamai and Kongwak, 2 very different landscapes with the Bass Coast Landcare Network.  This will include community planting days in late winter 2024.
• The multimedia interactive resource has commenced development with landowner interviews taking place and filming work undertaken at participating properties, include drone filming to capture aerial imagery.        
• Bass Coast specific Fire Wise brochure is in development.  This will be a downloadable resource and will also be integrated into the multimedia interactive resource. 

This is an exciting project that is due for completion in March 2025.  Most project activities will have been completed earlier than this date.  Look out for some of these fantastic resources being produced as part of this project as we announce their publication and promotion later in 2024.
