New Giant Gippsland Earthworm resources now available.

​In 2022, a partnership project between Bass Coast Landcare Network, South Gippsland Landcare Network, Trust for Nature, INVERT-ECO, Drift Media and the Gippsland Threatened Species Action Group was funded by the Australian Government.  The project was titled “Enhanced Knowledge and Protection of the Giant Gippsland Earthworm”.  

The majority of Giant Gippsland Earthworm (GGE) habitat in the Strzelecki Ranges has been cleared for agriculture. GGE can survive well under pasture but need protection from threats such as changes in the soil moisture, soil compaction and pugging by cattle. Revegetation of dense, high water-usage species can also dry out GGE habitat.

With the project successfully completed, we are excited to make available some fantastic new resources designed to provide innovative advice on how to manage sensitive GGE colonies throughout our agricultural landscape.
