You are all invited to our 'Passata Starter Day' at the River Garden! We can’t wait to kick off the new River Garden Community Volunteer program with this fun day coming up on Saturday 9th of March. Read Below for a flyer with more information and to book your spot and get involved! You might have noticed a food garden emerging on the river flats behind the Bass Community Centre as you drive by on the highway. This is the Bass Coast Landcare Network River Garden. As well as being a demonstration garden for innovative organic food growing techniques it is being developed into a community space where you can be involved in projects, grow your own food, learn at volunteer days, Master Class workshops and join in with other community members in the fun. We currently have a glut of tomatoes coming on and as an introduction to our new Volunteer program, we are running a Passata making day along with a guided walk around the garden. There will be an onsite induction for new volunteers and discussion about the program and interests of volunteers that want to be involved. We are asking for RSVP's for this event (ongoing volunteer days won't be as formal) and have included a few questions on the Eventbrite booking form to see if you can bring along some equipment to help us process tomatoes into delicious sauce on the day. We hope you can make it to this great community event and some of our ongoing volunteer days, read below for more information on future sessions. Click here to RSVP online for this introductory day so we have enough for everyone. Check out the flyer below for all the details. New River Garden Volunteer program
Second Saturday of each month Our ongoing River Garden Volunteer sessions will run from 9.30am-12.30pm where participants will learn about different methods of growing food by participating in hands on projects to develop different growing areas of the River Garden site. Volunteers will be led through an onsite induction process by Landcare staff and be involved in setting up and maintaining new growing spaces on site. Into the future volunteers can set up their own growing spaces and be involved in areas of their interest on site. Meet like minded people, learn from each other by doing and contribute to a great community project! Volunteers will also have access to any seasonal gluts of veggies and fruit produced on site. If this sounds like you, click here to register your interest as a volunteer in our ongoing River Garden Volunteer sessions. |
